FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How often does WPCS hold auditions?

Auditions are typically held in the summer before the start of each Concert Season. If you are interested in auditioning, please fill out the online audition application for the most up-to-date information on auditions.

What does the audition process consist of?

Auditions will consist of sight singing exercises, vocalises, and aural skills testing and are approximately 10-15 minutes in length. There is no need to prepare a solo piece for the audition, but please bring a resume if you have one. All auditions are conducted by WPCS Artistic Director, Mark Tomasino.

When and where does WPCS rehearse?

WPCS rehearses every Wednesday evening from 7-9:30pm at the Wicker Park Lutheran Church [1502 N Hoyne Ave, Chicago, IL]. Each concert cycle also requires one weekend rehearsal TBD at the beginning of each rehearsal period.

Is there a fee to join WPCS?

Nope! WPCS operates solely on the generosity of donors and volunteers. Many members enjoy contributing donations or services to the choir, but this is not required to participate.

Are singers paid?

Members do not receive monetary compensation for participating in WPCS rehearsals or performances, but are occasionally presented with paid performance opportunities not related to WPCS.

Is WPCS affiliated with a certain church or is it open to people of any faith or non faith?

WPCS is not affiliated with any church or religious belief, and is open to everyone.

I don’t live in Wicker Park. Can I still join WPCS?

Yep! WPCS has had members travel from as close as three doors down and as far as one state over! Our rehearsal space is conveniently located near highways 90/94 and 290, as well as many public transportation options, so it is easy for anyone to be a part of WPCS.
