WPCS presents A Christmas Rose
Begin your holidays with the warm sounds of Wicker Park Choral Singers at A Christmas Rose, the opening concert of their 2009-10 season. The performance will begin promptly at 3 PM, Saturday December 5, at Wicker Park Lutheran Church, 1502 North Hoyne Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. This concert is free and open to the public. A Christmas Rose will feature a lively and moving collection of international carols, spirituals, and works from today’s foremost composers, such as Jan Sandström and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki. “Our goal with this concert is to provide the community with a heart-warming way to bring in the holiday season, while performing works that are challenging and significant,” said Mark Tomasino, WPCS President and Artistic Director.
The program centers thematically on the Christmas rose, an image which dates to the 15th century and has been woven into the work of countless composers, both past and present. “The rich collection of choral literature surrounding the theme of the rose allowed us to create a holiday concert program that I think is both dynamic and accessible,” said Tomasino. Wicker Park Choral Singers’ winter performance will explore the symbol of this wintry blossom through text and music, telling the story of Christmas from a unique and refreshing perspective.
A Christmas Rose is free and open to the public; guests are invited to make a donation at the concert. Wicker Park Lutheran Church is located at 1502 North Hoyne Avenue at the corner of Hoyne and LeMoyne Avenues. The concert begins promptly at 3 PM on Saturday, December 5.
