Job Description

After 11 years with founder Mark Tomasino at the helm, Wicker Park Choral Singers is seeking its next Artistic Director to lead the organization into the future. This is a stable organization with a track record of success that is primed to grow over the next several years. WPCS is an all-volunteer yet competitively auditioned ensemble comprised of 40 to 48 highly skilled and passionate singers. The choir rehearses weekly (currently Wednesday evenings 7-9:30pm) and produces three main concerts per year as well as several other community events and performances throughout the year.

This is a terrific opportunity for a choral conductor who is seeking additional artistic fulfillment and values a strong sense of community. 

Our mission is to build community through choral music. We strive to do this in three key areas:

  • Collaborative programming with other performing artists, composers, and organizations.

  • Coordination and advocacy with other choral ensembles.

  • Providing welcoming and high quality group singing experiences.


  • Set the artistic vision for the organization

  • Select repertoire and help procure sheet music

  • Seek out collaborations with other performing artists, composers, and organizations 

  • Develop rehearsal plan and learning aides for the singers

  • Prepare for and run weekly rehearsals

  • Provide a welcoming, challenging, and high-caliber group singing experience for our members

  • Conduct all performances

  • Participate in fundraising and donor development activities

  • Attend monthly board meetings

  • Audition prospective members

Support you will have:

  • A highly engaged and helpful Board of Directors, including the founding Artistic Director to serve in an advisory role and help with the transition

  • Two paid staff members in a General Manager and Development Coordinator

  • Volunteer Section Leaders

  • An established reputation and strong brand, helping attract hundreds of interested singers each year



  • A Bachelor's degree in Music with 5+ years choral conducting experience.

  • Proficient piano skills

  • Understanding of vocal pedagogy and healthy vocal production

  • Multiple years of private voice lessons

  • Some level of continued education


  • A graduate degree in choral conducting

  • Experience working with singers beyond high school age

  • Examples of premiering new choral works
